re: Citizen Taco
While it is a pleasant setting, Bistro Zinc offers poorly cooked food from an uninspired menu. Our French onion soup was not the panade that this dish required, but some insipid, thin, flavorless liquid buried under a casket of gooey cheese. Steaks, ordered rare, were raw and inedible, crowned with a mound of greasy frites. Mussels and brook trout were drowned in tasteless cream "sauces." Skip it.

Do a search and you'll find several discussions. But to get you started:
Verdura, upscale Mediterranean, Great Barrington
Bistro Zinc, Lenox, upscale French bistro
Baba Louie's, G.B., great pizza
Betty's Pizza Shack, Lenox - also good, but Baba Louie is better
Spigalina, Mediterranean, upscale, Lenox
Cafe Lucia, Italian, Lenox
Bizen, G.B., Japanese (and avoid Shiro's)
Bombay Brasserie (I think that's what it is called - Indian food on Rt. 20 in a Best Western Hotel, nice view of Laurel Lake and very good Indian food).
Carol's for breakfast in Lenox
and Martin's for breakfast in GB
Have fun!›1 Reply-
re: bookistan
We visit this area often and dine around occasionally, so we have some familiarity with the restaurants you list. Don't you find Verdura overpriced for what it is? This is not a challenge but a request for a candid opinion. We miss the restaurant (now closed) diagonally across the street from Verdura but that is history though occasional lunches there provide good memories.

Just on the edge of Pittsfield, headed North on Route 7, is a little strip mall diner named Sunrise Cafe. CANNOT rave enough about this place. Fabulous breakfast and they recently started serving dinners.
Bizen in Great Barrington for the best sushi in the area. Church Street Cafe in Lenox has a great steak dinner.
What are you looking for? Fine dining? Great food? There are a number of pricey and tasty options as well as some just good food to eat choices...
