Enrico's on Broadway report
So, without the benefit of chowhound advice, I ventured out and visited Enrico's Saturday night with 3 friends. We made reservations for 10:30, had to up the number of guests twice, and were seated right away at a great table. So far, so good.
Unfortunatley, the service went downhill from there. Our waitress must have been feeling the effects of a long Saturday night, she kept us waiting at every step, from the wine, to salad, to entree, to dessert. She didn't even bring the bill promptly when asked, and didn't stop by once to ask us how we were enjoying our food. Maybe she had good reason.
The food was decent, we started with a good bottle of Pinot Blanc and I had a fresh, light Caesar salad, no real strong flavor, but a solid performance.
For my main course, I choose the salmon with yukon gold potatoes with caviar and baby leeks ($19). Outside of the potatoes and caviar, it really wasn't that good. The salmon was a bit overdone and bland, the leeks were limp, but the potatoes were creamy with a nice flavor, and the caviar garnish was great.
At the table was also a seafood ravioli, very stingy at 4 small raviolis, a steak that got the best rating for the evening, and an eggplant portabello mushroom lasange. The overall rating for food was "it's ok, I guess."
Dessert was banana crepes, I'm told they were good - I hate bananas; and carmel pecan profiterole, which was decent, nothing spectacular.
One thing Enrico's really has going for it is atmosphere. With the warm, rich lighting and a swining jazz combo and vocalist serenading the guests, it's got a great little supper club feel that is instantly comforting. A few people even got up to dance to a great rendition of Autumn Leaves.
My final comment: stop by for a drink and enjoy the atmospere, head somewhere else to actually eat.
