Hi gang,

Have to be in Clinton Conn., on Saturday. Any of you great chows, know of a good place for lunch? I don't know the area at all, so if you could be specific with addresses, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

There is a Lenny and Joe's seafood on Rte 1 in Madison, which is the town just to the west of Clinton. They do a nice job with the frier and the clam chowder (clear broth, the way I like it) is delicious. It really tastes of clams not milk or cream. I had lunch there the other day on my drive along I-95. I think there is a Lenny and Joe's in Westbrook, too. Westbrook is the town to the east of Clinton.

there is a great chinese place in clinton one route one, i think its called taste of china (its right near stop and shop) the food is excellent, its been written up in the Times as one of the best in CT, its a bit expensive. im sure you will get the Lenny and Joes recommendations, to be honest-its not that great. swing into cuckoos nest in westbrook if you want a fun mexican meal and a killer drink.

i second the reccomendation of a taste of china. it would be an excellent choice for lunch and it is very reasonably priced. the chengdu dumplings(in a spicy sauce)are very good, as are steamed vegetable dumplings and steamed little juicy buns. the hot and sour soup is a superior version; also reccomended are chengdu noodles(cold w/spicy sauce), diced chicken w/chili sauce, scallions and peanuts, eggplant medallions, ma po tofu, twice cooked pork w/golden chives, whole fish w/hot bean sauce, salt and pepper shrimp, bean leaf tops or whatever greens are available.

Sounds like another home-towner re L & J's, and they are also right about Taste of China- it's opposite the Shaw's shopping center after the intersection of Rt 140, and does have excellent Chinese food.

Depends on the weather. If you want fish, Lenny & Joe's is always mobbed for lunch OR for dinner on weekends, even off-season. The one in Madison is closed now, but the one in Westbrook on the Clinton line(westbround) is open all year round. Don't be put off if the line is out to the parking lot- it moves fairly quickly. The food is substantial, good but not great and fairly priced. If you are looking for a hamburger, Chips Pub II in downtown Clinton is quite good but often noisy. But the best kept secret is Edd's Place in Westbrook, just over the Clinton line eastbound. The place doesn't look like much, but the food is superb and very reasonable. They have the best lobster bisque and clam chowder we have had anywhere, including Maine and RI. Order what you want or the menu from inside the shack and they will bring it out to you in the heated, glass enclosed gazebo on the water. A few feet farther east is the well-known Bill's, great atmosphere, great bar, so-so food but a fun place. Noisy and crowded inside on weekends all year round.

All of the recommendations so far are excellent, but
I especially want to second Edd's deli. My wife regularly picks stuff up there when we don't feel like cooking. Order at the counter and take a seat in their enclosed gazebo. Lenny and Joes or Westbrook Lobster are also good if you feel like seafood.

Just one correction, Lenny and Joes in Madison is not closed. Only the lobster counter. The rest is open year round.

Try the Aqua Restaurant in Clinton. I have been there for lunch. The menu is limited, but the place is right on the water at the harbor. Nice wine list. Not expensive. No website, but click below for location.
