Lunch at Rose Pistola in SF

I made a quick trip to SF for the weekend and can
report on a very satisfying lunch that my two sons and
I had at Rose Pistola. We ate on the street after the
sun made its appearance and we shared numerous dishes,
which were all very good.

We had a fava bean farinata with asparagus, a stuffed
pizza (crescenza) with cheese and prosciutto, a shaved
artichoke salad (very sophisticated), a polenta dish,
sauteed spinach, and a large order of excellent manila
clams, sauteed and served on a bed of square cut
pasta. (These clams were close to the vongole veraci
that are served all over Italy and impossible to
duplicate in the US in my experience.)

We had a delicious white wine from the Veneto, Bianco
di Custoza, and all in all, it was one of those
memorable meals, where the company, the setting, the
food and the wine all contribute to an experience that
was greater than the sum of its parts. Even the
espresso was better than average.....
