Thanks to Noreaster and Shaebones for their menu recommendations at Fore Street Grill.

My fiance declared that the muscles were the "best ever". I began with the Foie Gras with cherries -- a nice balance of salty and sweet. Our friends began with the organic greens and the pizza. Both were also good. We also had the whole fish (moist flesh, delicate flavor), roast chicken (must have been brined, excellent crispy skin), and seafood stew. We enjoyed the Elk Cove Pinot Noir with dinner ($33 a bottle). For desert, we had the apple tart with lemon ice cream and the chocolate souffle with rum sauce and banana ice cream. Both were nicely executed.

Everything from the bread basket to the coffee at the end of the meal was wonderful -- and a complete bargain in comparison to the the Boston prices we are used to.

I think they are overrated. Yes, they are good, but overrated. I feel his sister restaurant, Street & Company, or Back Bay Grill is superior, and less expensive.

I agree that the three you mention are all good.
I must try Back Bay again with the new chef,I found that when I was there last they were a bit more pricey, than Fore Street.

Fore Street is NOT overrated, in my opinion. I have eaten there many times, although not as many as I'd like, and have never been disappointed. Yes, Street & Co. has mussels that are as good, but these restaurants both have the best mussels anywhere (including Berthas in Balto). Everything is delightfully fresh, mostly organic, and I love the chef, Sam Hayward. He's a really great guy. When he owned 22 Lincoln in Brunswick, I had one of the best meals of my life there. Lobster out of the shell with Tahitian Vanilla Cognac sauce. Also, there is an Eiswein on the list that is to die for. I've got reservations for two weeks from now. YUM!
