After reading many reviews and recommendations for Fore Street Grill on this board, I've made reservations for next weekend, when four of us will be in the Portland area for the flower show in Scarborough. One of our party is vegetarian. Will she be subsisting on the contents of the bread basket, or are there some vegetarian options on the menu? I would normally check the restaurant's website, but I can't seem to find one for Fore Street.

If not, is there someplace else in the area you would recommend?

What type of vegetarian is your guest? Fore Street has some great cheeses to create a cheese plate with fruits;always a vegetarian pasta as well as a wood fired pizza. In addition, there is usually at least one veggie salad (again, most have soem kind of cheese)as well as side vegetables. If this is a must stop, your vegetarian friend will find something as long as they are not offended by the humongous pork loin or venison chop showing up nearby.

If this doesn't work there is always Peppercorns up on Middle Street.

Noreaster -- that all sounds wonderful. She's lacto/ovo so she'll be in chease heaven and happy with either the pizza or pasta option.

Are there any dishes on the menu that are not to be missed (like the rack of lamb at Mill Tavern in Providence)?

Hard to say what not to miss since the menu changes so much but the mussels are excellent, the Winter Salad (Summer salad is better but you'll have to wait)! I'm a big fan of the Scallops which are wonderful this time of year or King Salmon or Halibut. You really can't go wrong with these. Save room for dessert and if no room left take home some house made chocolates to enjoy later. Even the bread in the basket, chewy crusty country frnch, frm Standard Bakery downstairs is excellent.
