Are there any places north of RI that offer "NY System/Coney Island System" wieners - small hot dogs with the ground beef atop?

I live in Portland ME and have a craving for them...

I've lived in Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, and I've never seen those places anywhere other than the greater Providence area.

Actually, I kinda hope they only exist there. I love those little things about Rhode Island that make it unique. Plus it means that whenever I go back I eat an armful of them.

When you say armful, at most authentic RI weiner joints that would unfortunately be the arm of the counterman.

An often overlooked aspect of the NY System Wieners are that the ends are cut off not tied up, not sure any State still allows it.

Looks like a nice day for a roadtrip...head south!!!

After you've had your armful of weinies and a couple of large coffee milks you can get some to take with you to have at home...the secret is to ask for them on a cold bun, you would be surprised at how well they reheat.

Have a nice ride!!

You can order them now and make them at home - Famousfoods.com sells everything but the "weinies" and they will be offering them on their site very soon- I know- I asked them to start selling them and they said they would have them for sale within a month.

:) Oh happy day !!
