Good morning,
Are there any cool diners or greasy spoons in between Waterbury,CT and Newport,RI. We are either going up 95 or scooting across the middle of CT. Thanks,Richie

I would have to say E&J's on rte 1a in North Kingstown. You can't beat the prices, the fresh hash browns, and it's a cute little spot.
We used to skip morning classes senior year of high school for breakfast there.

Wait a minute...this post is from 3 years ago!!

Not a diner, but Uncle Willie's BBQ in Waterbury is a must stop. It's been rated as one of the top 10 BBQ places in the country. Located in a non-descript strip mall, they make really incredible food. And Sunday-Tuesday, they have an all you can eat brunch. Entrees start around $7.

Good call on O'Rourke's. Non better.
In Newport, be sure to check out the 4th Street Diner. Old school diner with great food to boot.

Don't know how far off your route this is, but Snoopy's Diner in N. Kingstown RI is very good as is Allie's Donuts about 1/2 a mile down the road. Worth a detour.

O'Rourke's, in Middletown--north end of Main Street. Best breakfast in Connecticut. 84E to Rt 9 south to first Middletown exit (Rt 66 E). Look to your left at the top of the exit and you'll see it. Open only until 1pm on weekends; 2pm on weekdays.

After breakfast, continue south on Rt 9 to the CT shore and get on 95.
