<content>I know this topic has been discussed a number of times, but since I'm heading north next Saturday for a week, I figured I'd extend an invitation for the hounds out there to update me on your current Burlington recommendations. I'll be traveling with an almost-four-year-old, to the extent that matters.</content>

      <content>Hi, Ian,

All you need to do is search the boards. Try looking at http://www.chowhound.com/newengland/boards/newengland/messages/10923.html
and
http://www.chowhound.com/newengland/boards/newengland/messages/10336.html
and then ask more specific ?s if those recs don't work for you.

And then have fun -- Burlington's a cool town!</content>

<content>I've looked over all the old threads and have some specific questions for my trip there in 2+ weeks. I'm bringing my mother whose tastes aren't quite as refined as mine (half joking) so looking for a place that has interesting dinners for me along with some basic choices for her. Does Smokejacks fit that bill? What are the prices, I can't find a web site. I did see the site for Trattoria Delia but there were no prices, is it worth it? I know Leunig's has its detractors and the "old world" part of the title sounds iffy, but is that worth it? The brew pub? Just looking for a fun, comfortable place with interesting food and people and not paying more than low $20's for entrees. We're staying in So. Burlington so will have to drive anyway if there's something that fits the bill in another direction. Thanks.</content>

<content>oh my that's a lot of questions. You shouldn't have too much problem making your pricing requirements as entrees usually don't go above $25 here, so here's my take on the rest:

Smokejacks: Excellent. can be a bit on the funkier side menu-wise, but not too much so that your mom can't find something normal. can be a bit loud at night, but they have a wonderful lunch which is a bit quieter.

Vermont Pub &amp; Brewery: big menu, very casual and good. can be smoky. burgers, sandwiches, etc. Also good burgers at Ri Ra's.

Leunig's: overrated but still good espially for brunch.

Trattoria Delia: Northern italian cuisine. a bit pricey, but delicious. A bit heavy for my tastes this time of year so i'd try Three Tomatoes on Church Street instead. Excellent brick oven pizzas, lots of pasta chioces and the portions are just right, as are the prices. Also open for lunch.

My faves: O's (on the waterfront) for seafood; 3 tomatoes for casual Italian; A Single Pebble for Asian; and Daily Planet for fun, casual and great food (lots of choices, reasonable prices, and stellar food).

<content>The Smokejacks website is at www.smokejacks.com, and includes menus and prices. Based on what I've read about it on the board and saw on the website, look for me and my family there several times next week.

<content>Head to Al's French Frys in South Burlington (Willston Road/Route 2) for your greasy spoon fix. Great fries and good burgers too. Bove's on Pearl Street is a Burlington institution. Very good "red sauce" italian and very reasonably priced. Parima, also on Pearl Street is a great Thai restaurant. New World Tortilla (corner of Pearl and ???-kiddy corner to Parima) for great burritos.
Seven Days (a weekly paper) just published their "best of" issue. It may be worth checking it out if you can find a copy, or check online.

<content>On Church St., NECI Commons is tasty, family friendly, and you can see the culinary students of the New England Culinary Institute at work.

If the little one has refined tasted, the sushi bar across the street is also excellent.

Also check out the Red Onion (it's a sandwich shop) and get the Red Onion sandwich.

For breakfast try Sneakers (it's in Winooski).</content>

<content>Don't laugh. Our son loved escogo (snails) at that age! Try it; your tike might like "exotic" food too. It is worth the price, just to watch the waiter's face when the child asks for it! We all start somewhere. </content>

<content>I second Vermont Pub and Brewery for a kid friendly atmosphere. Large menu, very resonably priced and good beer. Have a pint of Burly for me!</content>
