Martha's Vineyard
My husband and I are coming for a visit in July. We've never been before and are looking for some good local favorites. Hidden treasures and family run restaurants are our favorites. Flexible on budget, but value is always appreciated. We have access to a car, so location is not a problem.

MVI probably has more good restaurants than any place of similar size in the US. Since there really are no chains here, most eateries are "family owned" in the sense that the owner is usually working there. And not much is "hidden" here either. Being a resort community in season, expect prices to be higher than maybe what you are used to. My favorite "high end" places are Beach Plum Inn (Menemsha), Le Grenier (Vineyard Haven), Le Etoile (Edgartown), Outermost Inn (Aquinnah) and Mediterranean (Oak Bluffs by now). All have professional wait staff, which is sometimes lacking on MV.
A bit more reasonable, but also very good are The Grill on Main and Lattanzi's Pizza in Edgartown. Best pubs are The Newes from America and David Ryan's in Edgartown (eat in the bar), and if you can stand the noise - Offshore Ale Company in OB. There are several relative bargains here too, though the food is not fancy or gourmet, Giordano's, Jimmy Seas, Smoke 'n Bones and Sharky's Cantina, to name several. You may want to try the two most famous restaurants on the Island- Black Dog Tavern in Vineyard Haven and Home Port in Menemsha. The quality and value issues can be argued forever, but they certainly are not bad and appeal to many. I just though of 10 or 15 more, and I'm sure others will tout their favorites. Lastly, be sure to try Chilmark Chocolates. -
My husband and I have one been to Martha's Vienyard once and we had dinner at a place called Balance...to this day my husband still says it is the best place he has been ....and that after going Babbo, Les Halles and 15 East in NY.
He has the Lobster salad to start and the Big Ass Scallops for a main...yes, that was the name of the dish. I had a seared Tuna dish...it was super.!!! We are going back in Oct and it is the first place my hubby wants to hit!!
