Took the longer than expected ride on Sun. to finally check this place out. Westport really is in the middle of nowhere. At least it was only cloudy that day and not pouring, but not a day to really enjoy a place overlooking water and boats. It's got a rustic feel to it, good sized bar, some booths, a fireplace, an outer deck with a bar outside for when the sun finally does come out. Prices were higher than I expected, $15.50 for fish & chips? We got apple smoked bacon wrapped scallops w/ grilled asparagus and some flat beans that looked like slices of potato plus halibut w/ chorizo, clams, new potatos and green beans ($19.50 and 20.50). Both were very good, esp. the scallops. A bit too much salt and pepper on everything but tasty. Decent service, lots of young locals working there.

A few miles back up Rt. 88 we stopped at Handy Hills ice cream which had about 60 flavors to choose from, plus they served stuff quahogs and a few other things. We just got a coffee frappe and kahlua chip cone. The cone was yummy and a bargain at $1.70 for a good size. Had a little taste of grapenut but not as good as many others. I noticed a diner at the side of the parking lot that will be refurbished into the Handy Hills Diner. Maybe we'll try this drive again on a nice warm day.

I have heard Back Eddy has slipped a bit since Chris S. sold it, but can't say first hand. They do get the absolute freshest fish right off the boats.
