Well, you won't find it in any commercial establishment, but it's the house cocktail at my friend Richard's place when the weather turns warm: the Pinky LaRue. Vodka and pink lemonade on ice (mixed on the "dry" side; cures a winter's worth of ills. Come to think of it, it's sort of a poor man's Cosmopolitan.

Bevo's in Providence (on the river, down by the hot club) has about 150 signature martinis. Most notable in my book is the Expresso martini. Also try POP on Broadway in Newport.

One of the better mixologists around is John at Cuchi Cuchi's. Takes the trouble to muddle fresh fruit into his blueberry, strawberry-basil and watermelon martinis. Then there's Ken Oringer's (nonalcoholic, but still intoxicating) tomato-water martini at Clio, or the gingkobai cocktail at Clio's sashimi bar...

My favorite is the The Noche Loca at CityBar made with infused tequila (white peppercorns, pineapple, mango, mint, and lime, or any of the other spirits Robert Fathman makes - Makers Mark w/figs and vanilla bean, rum with ginger and cardamom, etc.). I also recently tried a great gin cocktail at Blue. I believe one of the bartenders came up with it; I think she said she infuses the gin with rose petals and cucumbers, and then garnishes it with a slice of frozen cucumber. Really good, but I can't remember what it's called.
