Arrows

After reading a nice review in the Portland Press Herald, I went on Arrows web site and was surprised by the prices. Does anyone out there know what type of clientle they attract? Also, has anyone been to Michaela's in Portland. I had a great food experience there over the weekend. They were actually serving sauteed baby glass eels. Thanks. Look forward to replies.

Arrows is one of the best meals I have ever had. Yes, it is a little pricey but it is worth it as a destination restaurant. The service is impeccable and if you can get a window seat the view of the garden is beautiful. If you're there during the summer months you can walk around the garden at any time during your meal. It is perfect for a summer weekend up at the beach and an amazing experience.

As for the food. It is exceptional. Everything on the plate is perfect. The ingredients are always fresh and everything is to perfection. To top it off, they offer you a small dessert on your way out. On my first time there I was pleased but it hadn't quite met the massive expectations I had until they gave me the most wonderful piece of tiramisu on my way out the door. I would definitely recommend this to anybody.

Hi! First, My dinner at Arrows was the most expensive dinner I have ever had. But, it really was wonderful. For me, it is definitely a destination restaurant and I could have gotten away w/ spending a lot less (it was $1500 for 8 people). The night I went it was a special guest chef dinner where each chef made a certain course. The dinner was a fixed price and I think it was $125, so the rest was wine.
The gardens are beautiful. That said, I have only been once.

Have not been to Arrows yet, nice review but the prices are what I would expect from a Michelin rated restaurant abroad or a first class New York or Boston place.I'm a little leary, seems like a seasonal price gouge.
Have been to Michaela's though, excellant food, great service and a beautiful room.Prices are very down to earth.

Late to the party here, but...

Irv, not a seasonal price gouge. Same price off season, and definitely memorable food. The wine list is very pricey, and the fixed-price dinners aren't cheap either, but they've been churning out excellent food for ages. They use local organic meats and grow and harvest their own herbs and most of their own produce on site, and tend to build menus on whatever's available locally, in season. Incredibly romantic atmosphere, too, if that's your thing. It's a destination restaurant, not a casual drop-by place (you definitely need reservations in season), and it leans toward the foodie end of the dining spectrum, but worth it, at least once.
