I originally posted this question on the Not About Food board, so click below to read the details there. Basically, we're looking for a quiet, affordable, chow-worthy destination. Any ideas?

I would choose the Mt Washington Valley, I prefer to be north of No Conway. For a really nice dinner I would choose the 1786 Inn, the restaurant IMO is the best in the valley, gorgeous views, beatiful wildflower gardens, cozy bar, service is rather formal
I also like the Jackson House Eatery in Jackson
especially in the summer out on back porch. for more casual dining/ drinking the Red Parka Pub in Glen Junction or the Shannon Door Pub. I love their small pizzas. The Bernhof in Glen also has excellent dining room and the pub has a nice menu also, the Wildcat Tavern in Jackson also has a nice pub menu. I also
love the sandwiches, and other goodies, from the Bear Notch Market in Bartlett Village(at the blinking light) pick these up before a hike or a day on the rocks at the river.
Accomodations should not be a problem a week ahead of time. I can't personally recommend where to stay I'm lucky enough to have friends to stay with.

We stayed at the Birchwood Inn in Lenox last summer, and it was a nice little B&B that served an amazing breakfast each day. Baked challah french toast with peaches and stuff like that. Really good. They had a nice, peaceful porch for reading and sipping iced tea in the afternoon. The inkeeper, Ellen, was as nice as could be. She has this wonderful "hearing ear dog" that loves to hang out with the guests when he's not working. It was a low key, not too fancy place, but just nice. It was Tanglewood season, but I don't think we called too far ahead to get a reservation. Lots of dining options in the area, but to be honest I can't remember the names of the places we ate but there's a lot on this board I think.
