I am searching for REAL GYROs. Real Gyros are made from pressed lamb carved from a spit and not from the oval prefab chicken, beef and lamb patties fine places like Tapas and Effies disappointingly try to pass off.

Do I really need to drive to New Haven? Please help.

I tried Jimmy's. Unfortunately the Gyro's were not "real". They used pre-fabricated beef instead of real presssed lamb. This is like offering a McRib sandwich instead of pulled pork...

Some other items looked good though. Thanks for the tip.

I'm not a gyros expert but there is a place in the food court at The Richardson building in Downtown Hartford that serves gyros and they appear pretty authentic to me.Only open during the day. Also South Main Pizza in West Hartford which is open for Lunch and Dinner.

Thanks. The Gyro Place in the Richardson does in fact serve the real thing. the place on South Main Street uses pre-fab meat, though was tasty anyway.

BTW -- I also learned that "The Gyro Place" also serves Gyros at the greek fest each year.

    2. Everybody (but me) seems to love Tapas on New Britain Ave. in West Hartford. Try calling them to find out what's in the gyros. I just don't remember and I don't know how they should taste.

      1. I'm not aware of anywhere in Connecticut where you can get REAL gyros (Richardson mall won't be your place either). It's all that processed pressed stuff. If you know of someplace in New Haven to get them, let us know.

        1. MM's Gyros on Temple St.
