There is GW Tavern in Washington Depot Connecticut route 47 and 109 (860) 868-6633. American staples with a surprisingly successful trendy flare in a colonial tavern. Worth the trip and the scenic drive, particlularly on a nice autumn/spring day.

If you like this sort of thing, The Redding Road House in Redding Connecticut is also a great destination. Although their food lacks the GW flare and can be a bit hit-or-miss, it is a great old world tavern/house setting that is quintessential New England.
