Have a Donut in West Springfield, Mass
I'm proud of myself. But not entirely.
The bad news is that my only full meal in West Springfield was at Chili's. The good news is that with that knowledge aforehand, I scouted out a charming independent donut stand with a really cool neon sign, The Donut Dip. The donuts weren't world class, but they were better than anything I've had in Manhattan. Very, very good.
I tried a bunch. The best was the sour cream variety, next best was the blueberry, but all the cake donuts were fine, with true, intense flavors. West Springfield is Dunkin' Donuts country, so it was gratifying to see an independent going strong with a superior product.
If you want to reward yourself for driving north of Hartford, The Donut Dip is located just off of Exit 13A (US-5) on I-91. Take 13-B by mistake, and you will hit the Chili's instead.

re: Bri
I know both Exit 13A and 13B well. They both exist, unless I've been hallucinating every time I drive 91 (which isn't out of the realm of possibility :).
The Donut Dip is before you hit Balise Honda (on the same side) and before the nunnery if you're coming from the direction of I-91.

I haven't been to the Donut Dip, but I've seen it. My husband is from that area, and we are out that way a lot.
But, for the best donuts ever, there's a place in his hometown of Southwick called Mrs. Murphey's. They rock.

It's been a few years since I have been to either, but I would agree that Donut Dip is very good but Mrs. Murphy's is even better. There was a time when I considered Mrs. Murphy's and Luke's in Avon, CT dead even, but I think Luke's has slipped ever so slightly. It's still excellent but I'd say Mrs. Murphy's is now top dog. BTW, I prefer any of the above to Tastetease, although it, too, is very good.

I just dropped into the Donut Dip on Thursday afternoon on my way up to VT from Hartford...what an awesome and chowhoundish place. I had something called a cheese log which was kind of a puff pastry twist with cheese filling and icing drizzled on top. Absolutely everthing looked awesome though...I will definitely stop there again. I wish there was something comparable in the Hartford area. I do love Elmood Bakery for it's doughnuts and Tastease for their teeny doughnuts but Donut Dip had such a selection....it would be hard to beat.

Don't quite understand where "Exit 13B" comes in. I am from Springfield and we do not have exit 13 on I-91 and Tr 5 in West Springfield. Also provide detail address of this Donut Shop, Please.

Donut Dip!
My first stop when back in the Land of More Sense and Less Attitude on the way home.
It's on Riverdale Street over in West Side, aka West Springfield, but i have to push myself to call it anything besides "west side."
It's on the northbound side of US5; you'd take I-91 to the Riverdale St. exit, going NORTH towards un-Holyoke. It's hard by an EbLens and a Subway, not far from the only Outback Steakhouse i've ever been to. Coming south from the hinterlands, you'd take the second Riverdale exit, again NORTH towards Holyoke. Or just get to US5. The sign's hard to miss, but i can't for the life of you give an address..that's down there in the big city where y'all have addresses. :) -
