that will be challenging!!
old orchard is known for it's crinkle cut french fries ( very good with salt and vinegar ) and their really horrible, doughy, undercooked and flavorless pizza.
i have heard recently though that there is a really good little restaurant call The Sunshine Cafe.
it may actually be in scarbourough but it's very close to o.o.b.
good luck

The Sunrise Cafe is on Route 9 just before getting into O.O.B. Terific stuff. Read my post from a few weeks ago. Right on the strip also is Joseph's by the sea (I think that is the name). Decent, creative seafood and good wine list

Have fun!

I never eat in OOB, but if I did, I'd check out the Landmark on East Grand Avenue. The ads always look interesting.

Try Texas Chilli on Ocean Park Road at the rotary in OOB. It's a hole in the hole Mexican place where the food is truly incredible ! Try the garlic-steak taco WOW!

When I lived in Maine (grew up there), I used to really like Village Inn restaurant on Saco Ave in OOB. It's a decent place that serves seafood and steaks etc.

A real popular place with the locals is the Dunstan School Restaurant on Rt 1 Scarborough which is a buffet (seafood/american) that's a cut above most buffets.

Be careful about the restaurants in OOB, there are too many truly awful ones there.

I just went by Texas Chili to check it out. It looks like a good alternative to the local sandwich scene, although I am not much of a sandwich person. The menu on the wall is a bit confusing. I ordered the "wicked garlic" rollup, which it turns out is on the chicken side of the board. Lots of chicken breast strips, lots of garlic hunks, cooked to the still spicy but slightly softened stage, shredded lettuce and a tomato slice, stuffed with cheese into a flour tortilla that was too full to be closed over. Salsa on the side didn't taste of hot peppers (I don't know if it was their habanero salsa they sell by the pint.) but was otherwise well seasoned. I asked about their chili, they said it was mild, with beef and pink beans. If they'd said it was spicy, I'd have bought some for later.

The other two places, though...

I've never had a good meal at a Village Inn, not in OOB or in Auburn. A quantity rather than quality place. Also, I remember it as the place that wouldn't give you real butter even on request, and poured me a shot of some bogus liqueur that was only 6% alcohol when I ordered Amaretto. Gee, I was supposed to request a premium brand in order not to get ripped off? The place has been a brewpub for a while, but I haven't heard any feedback on that.

The only time I've been to Dunstan Schoolhouse in recent memory was for a breakfast buffet a couple years ago, so I can't comment on the quality of their evening meal. I tend to shy away from buffets, though, because I shouldn't eat more than one plate of food, no matter how good it might be. (g)

The other reason locals eat at these restaurants is that they're open year-round, which is a limiting factor when you don't want to drive to Portland in the dead of winter.
