Good ginger beer with a real fresh-ginger kick is essential: I like A.J. Stephens, Dr. Brown's, Reed's, and Goya. It's pretty awful with plain old ginger ale. I really like a lemon wedge squeezed and dropped into this drink, too. By the way, you can get Dark and Stormies at Columbus Cafe and Bar, too. Oddly enough, the barman didn't know how to make a Moscow Mule until I 'splained it to him: substitute vodka for the rum for a very refreshing summer highball.
