If you can grab the attention of the bartender at Underbones at Redbones, you can have BBQ hash or most BBQ appetizers (fries slows it down) delivered to you in less than 5 minutes. Usually you can at least eat against the wall, even the bar and the high-tops are crowded there. I have managed two beers and an appetizer and still made the bus (30 minute wait).

Sessa's Italian Food Shop also has subs, calzones, etc, but I think they close at 6:30.

Burritos at Anna's are super-fast - in my experience, even when there's a long line it moves fast.

Burritos at Blue Shirt are not super-fast, but would still fit your window.

At Bhoja Cafe, you could grab a couple of Tibetan stuffed breads, soup or a sandwich.

Hope this helps!

Try a little piston sandwich from Diesel Cafe. This has fresh mozzarella, real basil & pine nut pesto with lip smacking olive oil, tomato, and greens on fresh baked bread. The next best choice is probably a burrito from Anna's.

I don't like Martsa or Bhoja. Redbones would be nice if a beer sounds good.

Little piston, yum! But I'm concerned there would be (well, would have been) trouble getting a seat at the time the OP was going to be there.

With the caveat that it has been many, many years since going to: Mike's Pizza has excellent sicilian pizza- and they do it by the slice. The closest to NYC sicilian that I've found in these parts. If Contessas is still open (don't know how late they stay open on fri night) their cannolis are great- as good as North End versions- made to order, so crisp and fresh, they also have very good coffee and espresso et al. (used to be a favorite of ours to get a sicilian slice at Mikes and then cannolis and coffee at La Contessas)...

I was just speaking with my friend the other day about Mike's - she loves the pizza and I dispise it (I, being from NYC). She loves the mushy, chewy texture of the dough - I think it's soft enough to wipe up a spill with.

Their homemade pastas do well though.

I grew up with La Contessa, but in my personal opinion they have been slipping for years. It could be part of the demographic change of Davis, but they seem to sell less and thus several times I have gotten very stale product from them. Even a made to order cake was so-so. Ricotta Pie and Cannoli's are still a very good bet (most places buy the cannoli shells from the cannoli bakery in somerville behind Mt Vernon). My favorite in the area was right next to Oasis on Main and closed (spacing the name). A lot of folks swear by Lyndells and La Cascia has excellent bread, but I usually now go to Royal in East Cambridge or some of the bakeries on Broadway instead of La Contessa.
