Kate, you were looking for sweet corn tamales. I found them recently at Taqueria Tapatio (82 Broadway, East Somerville, ~5 min walk from Sullivan Square T-stop) and at nearby Taco Loco (44 Broadway, East Somerville). Both places are owned by the same person and their menu and steam tables are almost identical. According to the employees, the sweet corn tamales are available every day, although they don't appear on their regular menus.

In addition to the sweet corn tamale with a side of cream, I tried a sweet plantain empanada, chicken empanada, nuegados (yuca pancake with molasses), and atol de elote. The food was very good but nothing out of extraordinary. For instance, I think the sweet corn tamale were better at La Frontera in East Boston. I also had better atol at Taqueria Cancun.

Per Paul's suggestion, I tried the sweet corn tamale at Taco Loco on Saturday. It was not as great as the one I had in Miami, but it was 90% there. Thanks so much for the tip Paul!!

Thanks for the report, Kate. Next time you have a craving for a sweet corn tamale, you should consider trying the Brazilian version, duce com queijo, which in my humble opinion is actually better than the sweet corn tamale. You can purchase them in the Brazillian market in Union Square, Somerville, or in the Brazillian churrascarias along Broadway in East Somerville. Make sure they are heated well (in a microwave or in a pot of boiling water). Excellent stuff! I couldn't stop eating the whole thing.
