White asparagus can be a pain to prepare (the peeling process is not always as straitforward as it seems*) and I can't say I found the effort worthwhile. But I do prefer fat green asparagus spears to skinny pencils. * for folks who've never prepped white asparagus: unlike green, you must peel white asparagus, because it has a much tougher outside layer.
