So... I've a close friend who wants to learn from the best of the best, at least locally. The question is, then, ... in that Brahmin social scene, where the lowells speak only to cabots, and all... which cake decorator is on all the butlers' rolodexes? who does the biggest, fanciest, most exquisite work, when boston royalty just _must_ be wed?

The two bakers I considered for my wedding cake are Ellen Bartlett of Cakes to Remember in Brookline and Ursula Argyropolous of Art of the Cake in Boston. We went with Ellen Bartlett whose cakes are absolutely divine. I think they are the top wedding cake bakers in town but Konditor Meister and Icing on the Cake are two other places to check out.

consider going outside of boston for cake decorators..there are some wonderful untapped resources ...check out sweetworks in acton, she does amazing work and is really easy to work with as well...her cakes are delicious..european style tortes, made from scratch...she did our wedding cake and it was the talk of the wedding

I'll second Cakes to Remember - fantastic design AND fabulously-tasting cakes. Konditor Meister's cakes look lovely, but are dry and nasty. If Eileen Worthley is still making wedding cakes at Sweet Creations* in Wakefield, her cakes are very good and the decor lovely, though more limited to traditional styles than Cakes to Remember (less expensive, too).

*disclaimer: I worked there, almost a decade ago, and haven't tasted her cakes since.

The Icing on The Cake, Konditermeister, and Party Favors are all great. I had my son's Bar Mitzvah cake and my daughter's graduation cake done at Icing on the Cake. It's on Adam's St. in Newton next to a Karate school
