The Blue Cat was just miserable: bad food, horrible cocktails, disgusting wines by the glass, bad DJs. Amazing it lasted as long as it did. Been in my Dead Pool for years. I guess one can't underestimate the power of cute bartenders, or the fact that singles-bar patrons will suffer the worst food and drinks if they think the pickup action is good. The Newbury Steak House was a good dive for many years in that spot, though I don't know anyone who actually ate the food there. Mini-burgers actually seems like a pretty good restaurant concept to me.
