I plan to visit this stall at the great Porter Exchange food court soon and I am looking for comments/advice/suggestions. I heard they make great deep fried foods. I LOVE tonkatsu but I'd like to sample some authentic dishes not readily available elsewhere. I'm particularly interested in trying the korokke and karaage. Your help is appreciated!

Mm... I am totally a tonkatsu fiend myself. :)

What do you think of the tonkatsu at the little Korean place in the Super 88 food court in Allston?

I've never had tonkatsu there. I didn't know they had it. Which korean place? Misono Grill or Misono Wok?

Tampopo is my favorite place within the Porter Square building. It is inexpensive and the food is delicious! I have not had anything bad there yet. The chicken kara age is one of my favorite dishes there, as well as the shrimp tempura. The corn croquette is very tasty too. I also like the soboro bowls.

One thing that may not be readily known is that you can get side dishes of most of the entrees. So, instead of getting the kara age meal, you can just get a side of it, and just get the chicken without the soup, sald, rice. This is good if you want to try a bunch of different dishes.

Tampopo also does not mind if you pick up sushi at one of the other stalls and eat it with your dinner there.

Thanks for the tips! That's exactly what I did. I got the karaage meal and a side of korokke. It was fantastic. I can't wait to go back again and try some of the other dishes. Do you happen to know the name of the sauce they give you with the korokke? Or where you can buy it?

I do not know the name of the sauce but there is a Japanese grocery market, Kotobukiya, in that same Porter Square building and they might sell it. You could just ask the name of it at Tampopo and then try to buy it at Kotobukiya.
