Actually it is not very close to the Maverick stop. It is close to the Wood Island stop. It's in Day Square. And I've not been in months, but the ceviche was very good.

Got the mixed ceviche maybe a month ago and it was one of the best meals I've had all summer (my first time there). Super-fresh seafood, really tangy, great, crunchy corn nuggets. Also had a glass of their chicha (blue corn drink) which was a sweet complement to the food.

Was there 3 months ago:

Chicken empanada - generously filled deep-fried goodness (be careful - I burnt my tongue cos it was fresh out of the fryer)

Lomo Saltado - stir-fried cumin-and-soy-sauce-flavored beef and french fries with onions & tomatoes was not only delicious, but came in a huge portion on white rice (french fries AND rice is a great combination!). This dish reflects the influence of a long-time Asian presence in Peru.

Arroz con pollo Peruvuano - this was the only part of the meal that didn't make us sit up and say "wow". Not that it was bad; it just paled in comparison to the other things we had. The negatives: the rice was mushy and the chicken somewhat dry (you get a whole breast on the bone with a wing attached). We got it on the recommendation of the waitress. It came with a side of potatoes in cheese sauce (forget the Peruvian name and I've misplaced the menu) which was both spicy and bland at the same time, if that is possible.

I also loved the purple corn drink (forget the name) and my husband liked the Cusco beer he had.

We saw huge platters of fried chicken going to other tables (smelled fantastic!) as well as the famed ceviche. We're going back for these next time.

The purple corn drink is chicha morada. You might also like the mazzamora morada (purple corn pudding with fruit) for dessert as it has a similar flavour.

Haven't been in a long while, but my favourite dish there when I went was the potato appetizer with peruvian mint/egg/cheese sauce, (sorry forgot exact name of dish).

Thanks; yes, chicha morada was what it was called. I really liked the clove flavour. They did have mazzamora morada but we were too full to try.

I wonder if your favourite potato app. was the same as the side that came with our chicken dish, except I couldn't taste any mint in it. I did some research and I think it's called "Papas a la Huacaina".
