Apparently the Olympian is expanding its existing space downtown. It's essentially a bar, and their food is not very interesting, so I wouldn't expect this to change things on their menu that much. We'll have to keep an eye on them.

The other food-related reason this is worth noting is that the business making way is George and Son Cutlery, one of the oldest businesses in Oregon and a terrific knife shop. Carl George is retiring rather than trying to move. It's too bad, they are my favorite place to buy and sharpen knives. They're selling off the existing inventory (30% off) for anyone in need of a good blade. Pay your respects if you go.

Thanks for the heads up. That is too bad. They're my go-to spot for knife sharpening as well.

Just so that I'm sure not to unfairly slur anyone, I heard that closure is mostly the result of a 70+ year old proprietor, not the Olympian per se. Direct your ire at the landlord, I guess.

I would much rather slur the Greek Cusina owner next door for being a colossal jerk who serves crappy food. I try to keep things positive, you know?

I really have to agree with you about Greek Cusina. Their Greek food is horrendous - I spent time in Greece on an overseas study program and have been back several times since and Greek Cusina is a bad representation of a great cuisine. I have also gotten sick there the two times I have been there in 20 years - how do they stay in business - belly dancing?

Sad to see George & Sons go - what about the place on Broadway a couple of blocks away - are they a good replacement?
