Pini's Pizza on River St (across from Shaw's) has great pizza. It's just a small pizzaria, so I'm not sure if you are looking for a higher end restaurant or not.

Gotta go with Franca's just off Moody Street near the train station. I believe they are one of the few real brick oven pizza places in Boston.

when i used to live there it was the same.. not great pizza but Francas was better than the rest. Sometimes i got it at a little family place on Moody heading toward Newton. It might have been Francos. Sadly enuf, if you want a family style place with atmosphere it will have to be Bertucci's. Actually, if you have never been to a Bertuccis their pizza is actually very good. I think the pizza at The Chateau was ok too, for a restaurant type of place, but i can't really recall it at all... Any one else had pizza there?

Franco's on upper moody street (not Franca's near the train station) is my absolute favorite...among the top 2 or 3 in the boston area IMO. Great creamy cheese and good tomato sauce. Crust is good and crisp with a nice chew to it. Good NYC style

I can second the recommendations for Pini's and Franca's. If you haven't been to Franca's in a few years, try it again. It has new owners & much better food, IMHO.
Other good pizza joints include Annas on Main St. and Waltham House of Pizza on Lexington (across from the police station). Just over the border in Belmont is the super-good Belmont House of Pizza. The white Roman pizza is oh-so-delish.
Hmm, I think I spend too much time eating pizza...

as a Waltham College Student, I can tell you that Waltham, despite posessing many pizza places, is not a great place to get pizza.

Best, but not great, and highly inconsistent: Franca's, Anna's, maybe Franco's.

Avoid everything else like the plague (Cappy's, Pete's, Tara's, blah blah blah)

Agreed. I lived on Moody Street for a year and a half, and must have tried every pizza place mentioned so far. None of them hold a candle to Regina's, Ernesto's, or Armando's IMHO.

There's another Waltham thread that happened not too long ago that has some pizza info as well.

I love the calzones at Pizza Express on Main St, especially because the sauce (on the side) is so good. They are possibly the best calzones I've ever had. I don't know if I've ever had their actual pizza, though.

We live in Waltham, but our favorite place to get pizza is Sweet Tomatoes on Washington Street in West Newton. We can walk over there from our house, so it's not all that far from Waltham.

Thin crust. Our favorite is the Pesto Splash.

Just ordered a pizza from Franca's - nothing great - regular pizza. Prior posts indicated an ownership change perhaps that brought along with a decline in quality.

I work in Waltham near Moody Street- since we don't have a caf, we order out for lunch every day.

The favorites for pizza are Sabatino's and Moody Street Pizza. Both are family run places that do a great lunch business.

I have to agree with RobinJ about Sweet Tomatoes- it's a short drive from the Moody Street area, I believe it is in the area called Newton Corner? The pesto splash is my favorite. They sell pizza by the slice during lunch, but I think after 3PM they only sell whole pies.
