Stopped into La Mamma's yesterday for my weekly empanada fix. As usual I devoured one of the beef turnovers in about two seconds with that cilantro hot sauce but per some old posts (specifically, Science Chick's) I broke the usual habit and tried the spinach. Excellent blend of creamed spinach, well complimented by the hot sauce. I wanted to try the chacarerro but by then it was nearly 4 PM and dinner was only a couple of hours away.

Walking back to my car I passed the burrio place and saw their empanadas sitting under the heat lamp. Umm, yeah, made to order vs. heat lamp. They were empty.

Also saw the Beantown Franks place. Anyone had a hotdog from there? Comparable to Spike's or Nemo's (is that the name of the place on Cambridge St.?).

Beantown Franks? Where is it? By the way Joe and Nemo's is no more. I was very pleased when they re-opened. They were the hot dog of my youth growing up on Revere Beach in the fifties, but they are being replaced by the Sausage Guy.

Did the Joe and Nemo's by Filene's also close? Is the Sausage Guy taking over both spots? And do we really need a sausage guy downtown when there's all those carts with fairly decent sausages?

The Joe and Nemo's by Filene's appears to be turning into a burrito stand of some kind. I can't remember the name.. it wasn't open yet.

I went by there the other night hoping to catch Chacarero before they closed. Unfortunately, they closed early, as they seem to quite often (it was about 6:30). They really need to open a stand somewhere in the Longwood Medical Area, or in Davis Square - and have it open nights and weekends.

The chacarero at LaMamma's is ok, but I don't know if it's worth going out of the way for. Anyone found any others?

The Medical Area would be an awesome location, it's so dull around here. I wish we'd gotten a good Thai spot in the food court instead of the Dairy Queen/Orange Julius.

But I always thought Chacarero closed at 6:00 even tho others have said 7:00. That's how I time it at least.

There's a DQ in that food court now? Call me a sucker but I love a blizzard now and then. Cookie dough and heath bar, yeah...

Sausage guy's sausages are unremarkable. Not bad. Just not great. I'd rather have Joe & Nemo's any day.
