Went to Sea to You this morning to take advantage of the sale. I don't think I'll go again when a sale is going on. At 9:15am, the place was jammed! You had to wait on a line to get into the back room, wait on a line to get your fish weighed, then on a line for the cashier. Each line was long. Sure, you save some money but, not enough to make it worth the hour or so it took me to get my fish to leaving the store. To top it off they were already sold out of Ankimo, at 9:30!! Love the place but, on sale days, it's madness.

It was my first time on a sale day, and I couldn't believe it. Where most days there are no more than a half dozen people in the place, there must have been 60-70 when I was there.

How do they determine sale days. in advance? or when they have too much product left?

I must say, the Blue Fin O-Toro wasn't all that impressive, either. Tonight I'm making the Big Eye Maguro and hoping for better.

BTW, the Big Eye Maguro was much better than the O-Toro. Don't know what the story is, but both pieces of fish actually smelled fairly fishy. The O-Toro I just barely seared, sliced, and served pretty much raw, and it tasted a bit fishy, too. The Maguro, on the other hand, I encrusted with a bit of mint, soy, & garlic, then barely seared, and it lost any trace of fishiness that it had once had.

How bizarre...I was there at @ 1:00, there were maybe three people there besides me...I buzzed in real quick, on the way to Floating Rock, for a lunch that was all that (g), and grabbed a piece of o toro, which I seared and served raw inside, along with some of their very spicy seaweed salad, and pickled ginger...Loved how I could buy little quatities of all the accoutrements.Luckily, the cooler was in the trunk!..Stopped at Angkor Wat Market after lunch, and finished my dinner off with some new mustard greens...I got major raves!

Do you know if Sea to You sells "poke," the traditional Hawaiian treat of cubed raw tuna lightly seasoned with sesame oil, chili peppers, scallion, seaweed, and alaea salt? I am totally craving that stuff!

Also, where is Angkor Wat Market--sounds like they have amazing Asian greens!

Nope, they don't have poke pre-made, altho they do sell lots of premade salads...Mostly, the seaweed, baby octopus in sauce, squid and mountain vegetable, etc., that one finds as apps at sushi bars...

Sounds like all you need is the tuna, and you're ready to roll on it, tho...They usually have at least three grades of tuna...

Angkor Wat Market is on Shirley Ave in Revere...There's another Cambodian/Thai market almost across the street(can't recall the name, but it's bigger, with a parking ot), and yes, they do have a great variety of greens...So do the Vietnamese markets on Dorchester Ave, in Dorchester, if that's closer for you...

I hate to share this competitive advantage, but Chowhounds have been very good to me.

We got there about 8:50am; there was only one other person there at that point. When we were finished around 10 minutes later, our exit was upstream, against a mighty current!

Our chu-toro was, I'd say, slightly above average. Not fishy at all though. And several guests have enjoyed the amaebi available of late - how do y'all prepare those suckers anyway?

I eat them raw, peeled and dipped in a little wasabi and soy...I actually like them as sushi over ice, as well...Some people like them steamed, but only a touch!.
