We are going to drive across northern Washington on route 20, from Burlington over to Winthrop.

Any recommendations as to where to stop for lunch or snacks along the route?

Our breakfast will be in Bow/Edison; our dinner in Winthrop. It's in-between that we don't know.

You must have breakfast at the Edison Cafe. It's like stepping back in time. The cook shouts out orders. The customers get up and get their own coffee. The waitress delivers a good portion of attitude with your scrambled eggs. But the bottom line is that the food is just like grandma herself cooked it. Lip smackin good!! Enjoy.

Thanks for the tips!

Re: the Edison Cafe. On weekends, we definitely have breakfast at the nearby Rhododendron Cafe (at the intersection of Chuckanut Drive and the Bow/Edison road), but we've not found a place for weekdays. We took a look at the Edison once, but it's hard to tell from the outside, of course. So thanks, we'll definitely try it sooner or later (and, I would bet, some ice cream at Cascadia farm on our drive).

The two must be quite different. The Rhody is *not* like going back in time. Their food is contemporary and international, but I can certainly do with one of their Finnish pancakes every once in a while. And they do omelettes properly, not cooked to death as is usual with traditional American omelettes.

Unfortunately there's not a lot-I'd pack a lunch and eat it at one of the picnic areas/scenic overlooks on Hwy. 20 (ie Rainy Pass, Washington Pass, Ross Lake overlook). The Marblemount Drive-In is fine if you want burgers and fries, and they have picnic tables on a lawn by the river.
For treats, definitely stop at the Cascadian Farm stand 3 miles east of Rockport on the hwy for homemade ice cream made with their own organic fruit. They have terrific milkshakes and a lovely garden seating area with a mountain view. The shortcakes aren't as good. They also sell organic produce, pickles, jams and a few types of prepared salads.

Where are you having dinner in Winthrop? We love it over there and make a trip at least once a year. There isn't much in the way of food on the way, so we usually get something quick in either Sedro Wooley or Marblemount (burgers and fries).

We are staying at the Sun Mountain Lodge for the evening. They have a restaurant that should be quite good (but excessively expensive).

Next morning we'll be off to Twisp to look for a more chowhound-y sort of breakfast.

It will be pricey but the view is amazing! We go there for dinner every year for our anniversary. Make sure to get a window table (all tables have a view, but being next to the window is best). We often see deer roaming around outside while we're eating. The bar has a nice outdoor deck for drinks. Sun Mountain is an amazing place. Enjoy!

We decided to stay an extra day at the Sun Mountain Lodge, so *any* tips you have about the Winthrop area will be appreciated.

We're looking forward to the magnificent lodge dinner once, but perhaps there a more reasonable but still good alternative for the other evening.

There are two great places in Winthrop that we like. One is the Duck Brand. They have great food with a mexican flare, a nice big deck for outside dining and an amazing assortment of baked goods from their bakery. The other favorite is the Winthrop Brewing Co. They are located in an old school house with great beers and food and a giant riverfront area for outside dining. This would be a good spot for lunch or a more casual dinner. We spend a lot of time here. Very friendly people at both establishments.
