Well, the eating train rolls on! After Blue Ribbon, Shwarma King, & Pho Pasteur,
We've gone to Hong Kong eatery and T.Lupita. HK Eatery: went there for roast pork. The whole was pretty good -- had dumplings and scallion pancake to begin with. Dumplings had too thick, doughy casing. Pancakes were fine, nothing special. Roast pork app. and stir fried mixed vegetables for my entree. Mom had spicy curried noodles, her staple. Both were pretty good -- but nothing I feel obliged to repeat. The waiters were gruff and forgot things pretty regularly. But I'm glad I crossed that pork off my list!

Now Tacos Lupita on the other hand ... how divine! I had the chicken huarache, mom had roast pork burrito. Mine was round corn tortilla on a plate, with chicken, beans, cheese, lettuce and sour cream layered on top. Side of gorgeously smoky-spicy tomato sauce. Edible with knife and fork. The chicken was great -- dark meat, prob. chicken thigh, roasted in the way that chains just can't do it, so each bite isn't bland like chicken breast and has a little tooth -- not chewy exactly, but not "soft".

Mom's was delish. Flour burrito not too thick or gummy, and nice balance of cheese and sour cream -- not too much of anything in there. Same salsa on side. And what a bargain.

Finished lunch with small Gina's Mocha Explosion from Christina's. Tasted the ginger molasses ice cream, too. Both were great. Only people in the store on the coldest day of the year!

Now what? Mom leaves tomorrow morning. We're from Boston, so we don't need to go for seafood, or Regina's, but we have so enjoyed finding interesting eats -- I've been looking on the board and feel like I've hit most of the spots I've been dying to try, and most cuisines; we don't need or want fancy. Ideas? I've looked on top ten lists and all those. Would appreciate input, and promise a report!

I've been meaning to post this for a while. I was actually going to put it on a web site and link to it, but I have just not gotten around to it.

This is a list of place from the board, or that I have discovered, am intending to try, or just like. I update it regularaly, print it out and keep it in my car... never know when you'll need it. I would love to see other hounds add to the list.

I'd suggest going Cambodian when visiting Lowell; the town has the second-largest Cambodian population in the country after Long Beach, CA. Angkor Kingdom (602 Merrimack St., Lowell) has a huge menu and a very helpful staff. The missus and I (who eat Asian food regularly) went there this weekend with my parents (who do not); everyone loved it.

Southeast Asian Restaurant (343 Market St., Lowell), mentioned in posts before, is also worth a visit; their menu contains Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Laotian specialties.

One of my favorite breakfast things is to go to Maverick Square and get Pupusas...Taqueria Cancun was my favorite but I haven't been back since they moved across the square...I think Rosticerria(?)Cancun a really small place has pretty good pupusas too.

Striper Guy has Cafe Polonia listed, I was there yesterday and had this amazing cabbage soup, which I believe had some of the lard with the pork bits that they serve with the bread swirled into it. Also had pierogis(potato and cheese, cabbage and mushroom and meat) god damn delicious is the only way to describe them and the cabbage and mushroom version was particularly noteworthy, also they were offering hot spiced wine(particularly good on a 2 degree day)...then you can go across the street to the deli and get some really great strudel things and cookies.

They've expanded the menu with an additional specials page.

It could be nice to share fondue with Mom before she leaves...at the swisshotel or whatever it may be called nowadays. I'd say tea at the Bristol but they be closed now for renovation...or maybe Irish breakfast at Matt Murphy's...just a couple of ideas
