I will have out of town guests next week & they wanted to check out the Pike Place Market for lunch. I have eaten at the Pink Door and Lowell's but was wondering if there was somewhere we could pick up some food for a picnic in the park. Does the cheese shop have meat? Does the little Italian shop that had the great garlic bread still around?

it is true that dilaurentis can provide you with the makings of a superb outdoor feast as can the pike place grocery at the north end of the market and also michou in between them. also, any number of places can provide one or more items toward your final choices. assuming by 'park' you mean victor steinbruek park at the northeast corner of the market, be aware that, in addition to its spectacular views both east and west, it is a wonderful microcosm of seattle with all its warts - which means that your guests' level of comfort (physical and psychological) may well be stretched a bit.

Le Panier French bakery has wonderful ham, Swiss cheese, lettuce, and dijon sandwiches on a crusty, fresh baguette for about $5. Add a can of San Pellegrino Lemonade and you've got a picnic lunch you can take out or eat in. Add a pain du chocolat or croissant or other fresh-baked pastry and the joys of dessert are yours as well.
