that Ethiopian place on Mass Ave in Boston?
Does anyone know the name of that Ethiopian place on Mass Ave in Boston near the Boston Medical Center. Is it still open? If not, is there anywhere good to eat (dinner) near the BMC?
Thanks.

Hi,
I think that you are referring to the following restaurant. I have not been to this restaurant yet.
Asmara Restaurant
739 Mass Ave. (bet. Inman & Prospect Sts.)
Cambridge (617) 864-7447
However, if you want a really authentic Ethopian restaurant, I would recommend the Addis Red Sea. I have been several times and the food and atmosphere are terrific!
Addis Red Sea Restaurant
544 Tremont St. (bet. Clarendon & E. Berkeley Sts.)

Ditto that. I was going to suggest it. Addis Red Sea Restaurant is great!

There was an Ethiopian restaurant ages ago on Mass Ave. not far from Symphony. Haven't heard of anything like that close to Bos. Medical lately. There's quite a lot of other things in the area now like that decent South American place between Tremont and Shawmut plus a ton of stuff on Washington St from hot dogs and fried fish to swanky meals.

I know what you're talking about. I ate there probably five years ago. It was a storefront with "African Food" or something similar painted on the window. The woman who did the cooking came out and sat with us for a minute and offered us more of some of the special things she had going. It was great. I no longer frequent that area, though.
Coincidentally, this past Sunday tried Fasika down by the VA hospital. Best Ethiopian I've had. I'll never go to Addis Red Sea again.

I believe the place you are talking about is Lucy Ethiopian Cafe. It had a nice atmosphere. There are traditional coffee ceremonies at 3pm on the weekends. The portions were on the small side and it wasn't as flavorful as Fasika in Somerville, which I think has the best Ethiopian in the Boston area. But it's great to have a new place open up downtown, and the prices were very reasonable.

Does Lucy's injera have that nice sour, fermented tang?

Yes, I had dinner there tonight with friends and it was lovely. As MC Slim said in an review of another treasure in the area– "Sweet Service." I've been online for the past hour learning more about this culture and it's food.
I loved the injera and not only does it have a fermented tang but the food has a nice balance of acid. I'm exploring to learn how to create that tang.
