Driving home this afternoon, WBZ radio had a little segment on this. The story went that MR told the landlord that they will not be renewing their lease, and that the landlord is approaching superstar chefs. The dining room has one of the most beautiful views: those huge windows over the graveyard! Andre Robert, daughter and manager, was quoted as saying something like "a formal announcement will be made in September."
Anyone know anything? Headed to MR for Restaurant Week? Speculation about who might takeover? Should this post be on 'not about food'?

I love Maison Robert, their foie gras terrine and filet, is really good. The sole is presented beautifully. The room is really horrible, though too dated. They need a renovation for a newer crowd to come, they can't rely on their clientele forever.

I worked there last year, and the kitchens are dated too - so, gut the building, and keep the view!

I went for their Bastille Day celebration 2 years ago and it was really good (I think it might have only been a $25 pp price fixe) but we were a little skeeved out on the patio seeing the occasional rat run into the bushes. Then, later, the lady friend and I scouted it as a reception venue, and were again a little skeeved out to see mousetraps in the dining room.

I agree. It's an awesome space that could be really, really great. But yes, it needs to be renovated - not necessarily replaced.

The post is right where it belongs. MR is sort of funny. I live and work very nearby. I never even think of going there for dinner..but lunch on their patio is 1 of my favorite good weather experiences. If the rain ever stops, I highly recommend it.

This wouldn't surprise me. A fair amount of MR's lunch business was investment people coming for meeting with companies floating new issues of stock. This business has gone away, and it won't return to its prior level for a very long time.

I used to be invited to 2 or 3 of these per week..now it's maybe once a month.. for an "info meeting." Other "losers" in this business are Locke Obers, Bay Tower Room and the Meridien.

Actually, the Restaurant Week deal listed for Maison Robert is for dinner at Ben's Cafe. And I have an 8:15 reservation for Tuesday evening.

Anyone got a brilliant idea for an elegant and fun place to have a cocktail first?

For a cocktail I'd suggest the bar in the new Ritz, Seasons across from Fanueil Hall or Bay Tower Room. Or the Federalist, Spire, No. 9 Park or the Parker House Bar.
