My top choice might be Taberna de Haro right now. Scroll down on the board for a few recent positive reviews. Good honest Spanish food.

Also, this topic has come up a few times before, so you might get some good tips by doing a search from the main chowhound page. I've attached an old post.

In addition to the ones on the attached post, I might recommend the new Great Bay (it has a fun ceviche bar) -- although it is quite expensive -- and Woody's, which has pretty good brick oven pizza.

<content>I was going to wait until I tried it, but there's a new place that just opened (last week maybe ?) right in the same strip as El Pelon. It's called Pho Hong Kong.

"I was going to wait until I tried it, but there's a new place that just opened (last week maybe ?) right in the same strip as El Pelon. It's called Pho Hong Kong."

After four visits to Pho Hong Kong, I would say the jury is still out, but it doesn't look good.

On the good side, the servers clearyly take pride in their food. It just isn't celar that the food is all that good. In fact, some things have been plain bad. The bun (vermicelli), for one, is not very good. Nothing like the superior versions at Nam Vang, for one. They didn't even serve any sauces with it of any kind!

A salt-fish fried rice dish wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either. A deep fried fish dish (I can't remember what it was called) with garlic sauce was also uninspiring. I hope it pulls it's act together, because it would be great to have another good Vietnamese place.

But, the fact that it's both Vietnamese and Chinese doesn't bode well. </content>

<content>Definitely on the white table cloth side, The Radius empire recently expanded into the Hotel Commonwealth (500 Comm Ave) with Great Bay.

I only tried a few dishes, but they were all good. From the ceviche bar we tried a marinated octopus which was tasty without masking the subtle sweet flavor of the octopus.

They have no raw oysters (We are not an oyster bar, we were told) but the fried oysters were worth the price of admission. The were not the typical crunchy on the outside, molten raw oyster interior. They reminded me of the texture of sweetbreads. Firm, oystery, alomst pressed to a uniform width to encourage even and rapid cooking. Yummy.

We also tried a very flavorful sauteed calamari dish. It was light and fresh and very good.

I will be going back to dinner soon and will make a more concerted effort to report more details...</content>

<content>Our favorite pre or post baseball game spot is Audubon Circle at 838 Beacon Street. Super small menu but what they do they do well. We usually get a couple of Harp beers and then husband often has the burger (his favorite burger spot, I think) while I get the grilled shrimp and grilled bread with white bean spread.

Mmmmm. Ok, now I want to go :-(</content>

<content>There's also Ginza for Japanese, O'Leary's for pub food, the Korean Place and Via Via for pizza all in the St. Mary's neighborhood. Maybe not the best places in the world but slightly less crowded with baseball crowds. Cafe Belo in Kenmore Sq. is a good cheap Brazilian place. And for some reason I always space on the name of the English pub in Kenmore even tho it's been there 20 years.</content>

<content>The Sausage Guy on Landsdowne St. does great grilled sausage, a few notches above the rest. Last year my daughter and I were served sausages by Mitt Romney. We ate them anyway. I also heard that Louis Tiant, former Red Sox great, is serving cuban sandwiches on the "mall" on Yawkey Way. Enjoy.</content>

<content>There is a booth called something like "Louis Tiant's Cuban grille" on Yawkey Way, but I'm pretty sure Louis himself is letting others serve the sandwiches.
I was there the other day, saw Louis drive up in his big car, smoking his big cigar, but he didn't go near his namesake grill. If he had, I might have bought an eight dollar cuban sandwich from him. Otherwise, I'll stick to hot dogs. </content>
