Clam Dip

When I was growing up, there was a clam dip I loved --I think it was by Breakstone's, but I'm not positive. Now I live way down in the hinterlands of Arkansas, and when I visit home, I want that clam dip of my childhood -- but the only one I can find is by Heluvagood (sp?)

Is the Breakstone's one still around, or is there a better one? Is there one available in either the Boston or Brockton area that's better than Heluvagood?

P.S. I ate my clam dip with Bugles. Disgusting, I know. But I just gotta have that childhood stuff. :-)

  1. The only one I've seen around is Helluva......really the best is the one you make at home. Gradually soften a pack of cream cheese (8 oz) with the liquid from a can of chopped clams. Once you reach a nice consistency, season with worcestershire and tabasco and add the clams. Voila!

I have a similar recipe for a shrimp dip... you use the pre-packaged shrimp cocktails (usually found in dairy case - 3 little jars with the shrimps and cocktail sauce combined) mix all 3 jars into a pre-softened 8 oz package of cream cheese that you have beaten by hand. Mix well and dip away!

Does anyone know of a hot clam dip that has a more bready consistency? Years ago someone made this yummy dish but I've never seen a similar recipe. It wasn't sour cream or cream cheese based at all.
