I need Menudo. Not the band that kicks out the pre-adolescents once they reach puberty but rather that delicous tripe-laden soup that nourishes the soul and sends hangovers the way of the do-do.

I grew up on Menudo and things have become so dire in my pursuit for homemade menudo that I'm considering ordering a case of Juanita's Menudo (the closest to original, homemade I've found). Any tips in Boston? Preferably on the T? I've got a hunch East Boston might have some good places. Help?

There's a Puerto Rican (I think) place called Izzy's on the corner of Windsor Street (and Washington??) in Cambridge that I know used to served tripe stew. (I haven't been in a while.) It wasn't for me but a *novio* from my past would go there if he couldn't get his mother to cook it for him when he was hungover.

Well, I know you'll be *shocked* to hear another rec. from me for this place, but Miami Cafe, my favorite source for Latino comfort food, lists "Mondongo",(tripe stew) on their menu for $5.00/$8.00...The same thing?

I know a lot of the South American or "pupuserias" have Mondongo, but I'm not sure it's the same thing. There are a lot of versions of Mondongo (can have cassava, chick peas, ham, olives, etc.)

I'm pretty sure at these two places have the Mexican menudo (BTW, have made it at home and cooking tripe sure fills the house with a not-so-good smell!)

Tacos El Charro in Jamaica Plain (also a great place to go on weekends for sopes, birria tacos and Mariachis!)

I think Mondongo is a Coloumbian dish. Seen in a couple of Colombian places in East Boston, but haven't tried it there -- some of these places offer it only on specific days.

El Pelon does specials now and then. Tonight (11/5), they are doing a menudo. Usually the specials are good. Good pozole.
