S&S Deli

Does everyone hate this place except for me? Met some people for brunch/lunch yesterday, parking in Inman Sq. was actually easy. Had a Monte Christo sandwich which I hadn't had in years and it was perfectly fine, came with decent fries and a little fruit salad. One person had pumpkin pancakes, one had a boursin omelette, one had veggie quiche and one had shrimp cocktail and Irish coffee (don't ask). Nothing special but there's something for everyone and the prices aren't bad. I've still never had their desserts but they look really good. I think it's dependable for a basic meal.

  1. Never been during the week, probably will never have the occassion to, but on weekends, yes, I do loathe this place. Parking is near impossible, the wait is intolerable, and the troll in charge of taking your name for the waiting list is one of the rudest restaurant people I have ever had to deal with.

      hi gang,
some times you can't get into the place. also the s&s now has parking lots (2) in the square by the gas station.

    2. I don't loathe the place, but I think chowhounds are on the hunt for GREAT food, not decent food. You can get decent food, okay food, or so-so food at a lot of places. It's much harder to find GREAT food.

      1. Yup, Joanie, everyone seems to hate this place but you, and a few all-nite researchers at MIT whose only other option is vending machines...Friendly's, IHOP and Applebee's have something for everyone,too...About the only time I've ever considered it decent was in the middle of the night, during a college-all niter, when nothing else was open....

Except it closes at 11 or 12, is that the middle of the nite? And I like Friendly's cheeseburgers on grilled bread so I've lost what little credibility I had.

Okay, so another strike against it; it's not even open late! :)
