Hot & Sour SOUP

Tian Fu in Wellesley and Beijing Star in Waltham seem good to me.

Other opinions/suggestions, please.

Thanks.

    New Golden Gate in Chinatown.
Finally got over to New Trend Eatery in Allston the other day -- very good there, too.

Love the H&S served family style in a big bowl at East Ocean City

Wow, who brought this thread back? I was just a kid when it first got posted! ;-b

Three of my favorite hot and sour soups are:

      King Fung Garden
Jade Garden, Arlington (hotter than most)
      Quincy Dynasty, Quincy

Our favorite is http://www.jaescafe.com , it has fresh ingredients and although the wife says it's too peppery she also says its better than chicken soup for colds.

Loved it (past tense). Last time I went in they said they'd stopped carrying it. :-(

Correct, they discontinued it... I was at the Memorial Drive, Cambridge store yesterday and asked for it - no longer available.

I sent them an inquiry via their Web site about this, and they said it was discontinued due to slow sales, but that if enough people requested it they could bring it back. The place to request is http://www.traderjoes.com/contact_us_...

I also put a note about this on the General Chowhounding board. Hopefully there will be enough of a groundswell to convince them!

King Fung Garden makes a very good hot & sour. And oddly enough, I really like the hot & sour out here in the burbs at Yangtze River in Lexington (when I go for the lunch buffet from the office anyway).

Peach Farm, in Chinatown, without a doubt. This is the Hot and Sour soup standard by which I compare all other versions.

Try Szechuan Garden in Medway. My brother has not found a better hot and sour soup, and he lived in SF for 3 years and chicago for a year.

Finally got to Tian Fu. The Hot and Sour soup was great! It seems to me that very few places make the style I liked so much maybe 15-20 years ago--nice balance of hot with sour, variety of textures and not so thick that you can stand a spoon in it, yet not too watery either. This is the closest I have seen in years.
I also had the Orange Flavored Crispy Beef whcih was absolutely delicious.

Is TIAN Fu still open? Used to like it but then the ?flavors/cook? changed and didn't like it

For a very different but wonderful hot and sour soup, try the vietnamese version at Pho Lemongrass in Brookline on Harvard St.
