Black Rose - Fanuiel Hall

We visited Boston today and ended up in Fanuiel Hall for lunch. We wanted a non-tourist trap w/ good food, that would accomodate a 3 yr old, and decided on the Black Rose. The hostess greeted us with a shrug and sent us upstairs, where we were treated to even more rudeness by the upstairs hostess. She refused to let us sit in an open table up front, and then refused to sit us in the booth I requested, even though it remained empty the entire time we were there. The food was okay - good angus burger w/ irish cheddar, fish and chips, and Guiness. Bottom line, fairly decent pub food that doesn't make up for the very poor service.

Other suggestions in the FH area?

Huh! We visited the Black Rose last week (Monday or Tuesday) with a 2 year old in tow and the service was especially accommodating and friendly. They had to run around the restaurant to find a chair for the baby, but did so cheerfully. They put us at a booth in the main dining area and were very good about bringing some food quickly for the baby. We saw another family near us with a child in the child seat and 2 others in the chairs and they also seemed to be treated very well.

We thought the food was decent... nothing to write home about but good for pub food.

Maybe it's the difference between going on a weekday vs. a weekend?

There just might be another factor: I've noticed that patrons usually get the kind of service they "ask for." Try again, and be especially affable yourself, and see if there's a difference.
