I'm a Manhattan chowhound coming to Boston next week with my 2kids, age 14 & 9. Staying in Back Bay and wondering what restaurants we shouldn't miss. Thanks for your ideas!

  1. It's hard to beat the selection in NYC...

The Helmand (Afghanistan cuisine) is one of my absolute favorites, and is located within walking distance of the Science Museum, which the kids would also enjoy.

Funny you should mention Helmand, it was just recommended by someone here in NY too! We love Afghan food, so it's a definite.

I just ate there last night, and I have to say their food just makes me happy!! Enjoy it.

P.S., My friend owns a place in Somerville that I think is very good too. Completely casual with good home-cooking and great desserts... It's called What's Cookin' on College Ave. at 136 College Ave. near Tufts University.

    2. Mr Bartley's Burger Cottage in Harvard Sq. Kids will like it as would any burger person. Then walk down the street to Toscanini's for ice cream.

      1. Try Fire and Ice, ~ 1/2 block off Boylston, on Berkeley St. Just south of the FAO Schwarz bears.

The kids can make whatever they want, and so can you. Our kids enjoyed it.
