Going to boston between x-mas and the new year. I want something very romantic--with great traditional italian food. I don't care about price (although it would be nice to not spend a fortune I must admit). Any suggestions? I have been reading these posts and I am overwhelmed!!!!!! Would like a place that takes reservations---b/c I am a picky when it comes to my table. HELP
I highly recommend Trattoria a Scalinatella in the North End. The food is wonderful and it's such a romantic restaurant with its brick walls, candle lit tables, and warm fireplace. Its small (I think it only sits about 40 people) so it's very cozy, but it can be hard to get a table. The service is excellent. It's also one of the few restaurants in the North End that takes reservations. It's secluded, on Hanover Street, up a narrow winding staircase to a romantic room on the second floor.
Paolo, the owner, loves his restaurant and is also quite a wine afficionado (they have won The Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence for the Most Outstanding Wine List in the World). He is a great host, and makes a point to come to the table, meet you, and suggest dishes and wine to make the most of your meal. If you're willing, they usually just ask your preferences/allergies and choose the courses for you.
