How about next Mon, Tues, or Wed...10/29-31?

  1. Either Tuesday or Wed evening works for me. Since the duck will need to be ordered the day before and we need a fairly accurate count to "size" the duck order perhaps Wed. evening gives us the max time to get a count.

Yikes. Brain just processed the dates you wrote. I think I would be able to make it for Mon, the 29th. I may not be in Boston the rest of that week.

Time for cup of tea or a nap.

Monday is a tough night for me, but I'll do my best to make it. Any idea what time we woud be meeting?

Ahhhh........the joys and fustrations of organizing a group dinner!

        1. re: Frank

Frank..what works best for you? I can be flexible but would prefer earlier...6 or so??

          1. re: 9lives

Yes, Frank, sorry we keep chosing a day/time not convenient for you. What time would be best for you.

            1. re: wrayb

Thursday or Friday would better for me. Early (6ish is fine). I appreciate everyones concern, but we'll have plenty of other times to do this. I have organized many Chinatown excursions and know how difficult it is to get everyone on the same page. Go with what the majority wants and I'll make it next time if I can't make it this time.

              1. re: Frank

Hmmm.... now I'm confused. It's dinner, not lunch? That's fine by me. I still really really want to have the duck. Could someone verify the date/time once and for all? Thanks.

                1. re: Amy

Okay, I THINK this is it..Dinner at King Fung, 10/29, 6:30 or so, time hasn't been decided yet. LUNCH, at Taiwan Cafe, 10/24, at 1:15, tenatively, time to still be decided. No duck at Taiwan Cafe, but great stuff!!

                  1. re: galleygirl

OK -- count me in for the dinner on 10/29. Duck rules.

Unfortunately can't make the Taiwan Cafe lunch this time, although I am IN LOVE with the eggplant and have already expressed my extreme gratitude to the hounds here who turned me on to it.

                    See you all Monday!

                    1. re: galleygirl

yes!! galleygirl...that is also my understanding...sorry I won't be able to join tomorrow's lunch group...have a chopstick full of eggplant for me

                      1. re: galleygirl

I'm in for Monday at 6:30. Count me in on the duck. Also probably bringing a spouse or a friend. Keep us posted as to any changes in time or date.

                    2. re: Frank

You will be missed on the 29th Frank.

I just got new marching orders and I am told I will be back in Boston again Nov 28 - Dec 7.

I hope we can coordinate a few of us for something else during that time.

                      1. re: wrayb

I could do a dinner at some point during that week or so, can't make downtown lunches. I might stop by on Monday and try to steal a piece of duck skin since I'll be somewhat in the area. But have to leave room for New Orleans later that week.

          2. So, I can do either week, but I thought we were talking about 22-26? 29-31 is fine with me; looks like wrayb wants mon...which is fine...

some plans of mine fell through..I could do Tuesday this week...10/23 or next Mon..10/29..we should have at least 3 duck eaters...1 duck is a lot for 2..doesn't really give us a good opportunity to try different things.

              1. re: 9lives

Going for the 29th will give us more time to gather together a few more people. Meanwhile see my reply to the stated interest in a vegetarian focused venture.

                1. re: wrayb

                  Or a non-duck-intensive venture!

                  1. re: wrayb

I'm getting confused. I'd like to come but I can't tell if and when people are going and who is eating what. I enjoy duck, seafood, and even meat. I hope that this doesn't exclude me. So you can count me in on the duck if the dates are right. Most of the dates mentioned are fine with me but I can't tell which is the last date proposed. Can I bring a friend?

                    1. re: chuck s

It is getting confusing...2 dates that are mentioned are Monday..10/29...or Tuesday 10/23..I think most of us who have expressed interest can make either night. The key is finding a time when 5 or 6 can make it...by all means, bring a friend.

                      1. re: 9lives

Sorry, I am guilty of introducing the confusion by initially thinking 9lives was proposing 10/23, and he graciously accomodated saying he could make it on 10/23.

But to give us enough time to gather a group large enough to thoroughly experience the duck service and also sample some other dishes I heartily endorse 10/29.

So, chuck s, can you and your friend make it on 10/29?

                        Others?

After reading the great description, I really really want to experience this duck thing. It is set for 10/29 at 1:15, right? Where is King Fung? I'm so excited!

                          1. re: Amy

I think we are trying to set up an early dinner..on 10/29....although I could do it for lunch or dinner...King Fung is on Kneeland..anyone else have a preference?

              2. If it's going to be duck, I guess I'll have to pass this time, since I don't eat meat. How about South Indian for the next round after that? I've been meaning to try Udipi Bhavan in Ashland. Anybody interested?

                1. re: C. Fox

Despite her enthusiasm to see the duck service, galleygirl also prefers veggie. If Boston area hounds who would like to go for the duck on Oct 29, perhaps a vegetarian focused gathering could be set up for later this week. I enjoyed the Taiwan cafe visit so much I am ready to try and fit in both.

                  What say ye?

                  1. re: wrayb

The only bad thing with veggie focused events is that it excludes seafood and gets TOO focused---as we proved at Taiwan Cafe, a veggie will find plenty to eat, even with omnivores!! Things just seem to even out. I DO understand how a duck-focused event could be intimidating, but if we can find enough duck-eaters, it would just be another dish....Altho, I would go back to Taiwan Cafe later this week!

                    1. re: galleygirl

Well, notice I said "vege focused," not "vege only" meal. But I can see that you are still thinking about that dish: the Special mustard greens with edame & fresh bean curd. Not to mention the dozens more dishes still untried by us.

Pick a day and time this week, and I will see if I can make it. Hopefully a few other people could join us again. I will have my co-worker with me this week, from Wednesday on, who I think would be interested.

Well, I should go do laundry so I can pack and be ready to fly back to Boston in the morning.

Okay, I can do lunch wed, thurs or fri......Duck exclusive!!

                        1. re: galleygirl

OK, based on C. Fox's post and my schedule, how about Wednesday. Last time the place got really crowded at about 12:10pm. So I suggest either prompt at 12 or perhaps 1:15pm.

Anyone else is welcome. I think my co-worker will come also.

                          1. re: wrayb

I can't get there til at least 12:15, so I'd opt for about 1, or 1:15..

                            1. re: galleygirl

OK, 1:15 Wednesday 10/24. galleygirl, myself and I will probably have 1 co-worker with me.

                              C. Fox?

Anyone else who would like to drop in please feel free, I will have my usual work blue shirt and blue baseball cap on.

                        2. re: wrayb

Can't speak for the true veggies among us, because I'm not one of them, but... I eat seafood and dairy products -- really everything except meat and meat-based things. I usually get by just fine when out with a group of omnivores, sharing seafood and veggie dishes and just leaving the meat dishes for others. I will happily attend another Chowhound meal at Taiwan Cafe. But I'll feel a little awkward sitting out the duck at King Fung if it's the focal point of the meal. (And I'm still interested in a field trip to Udipi Bhavan.)

In general, a Wednesday or Friday lunch would be good for me, or a Tuesday or Thursday dinner. This week, any of the above except the Tuesday. Next week, I'm only free on Tuesday. After that...well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

                          1. re: C. Fox

Seems like this week our schedules best mesh for Wednesday lunch.
