Pho Pastuer in "the Garage" is not bad. But, if you want REAL good pho and are willing to go out of the way, there are several Vietnamese places on (and around) the Dorchester Av off Columbia Road in Dorchester. They are much cheaper, as well.
One in particuliar is a place called Pho Hoa.

My friend teaches English to new Vietnamese citizens at her Dorchester church, and they brought her to Pho Hoa, as the most authentic pho around.....My favorite Vietnamese place in Dorchester is currently Pho 2000, right off Dot Ave in Fields Corner. I don't eat pho(non-meat eater) but their take on Fisherman soup, steamed fish, jellyfish salad and that fish in caramelized sauce,(can never remember how to say it in Vietnamese!!!) makes it MY favorite in the Boston area. I really think Pho Pasteaur, which I swore by for years, has gone totally white-bread. Whichever of them I have gone to in the past year or so, it seems the flavors have been tamed so much, they may as well say, "Vietnamese Style"...Yeah, it's nice that they have a liquor license, and the kind of decor that's comforting to people who are convinced they're going to be served dog, but I only go for convenience's sake, or as a compromise with a friend.

My wife (who is Vietnamese) and I like Pho Hoa off Dorchester St. We are looking for another good place to try maybe we will try Pho 2000.

After we eat we always head to Super88 Asian market off Mass Ave, it's close to Pho Hoa and it's the biggest asian market I've ever seen.

Thanks for the introducing me to Pho 2000. I took my wife there Friday night. We ate pho and Bo Bay Mon- which is the first time we've ever seen it offered in New England. The food and service were good.

Pho 2000 is at the former Pho So 1, so I had to get my Yahoo driving directions to that place since Pho 2000 doesn't show in the search.

Bo Bay Mon (it says Bo 7 Mon on the menu) means "seven kinds of beef". They bring a hotpot over a sterno flame and you cook the beef at your table and then wrap it with vegatables in rice paper. It's a lot of fun.
