Well, I am just a wee little chowhound (just barely 19,) and pretty new at this sort of thing... but I would like to urge all you Bostonians (I'm currently stuck in Northampton, myself) to get out on the Green Line and check out the Ankara Cafe. The cuisine has quite a bit of Greek/Middle Eastern sort of stuff, lots of great wraps and sandwiches, pretty good pizza (by the slice or the pie,) and about 40 gazillion flavors of frozen yogurt. The prices are good (and this is coming from a college student,) the people are wonderful, and the atmosphere is... well... either cozy or cramped, depending on how busy it is. My personal favorite is the fresh mozzerella, tomato, and pesto sandwich on a french roll. It absolutely makes my toes curl. Be aware, though, it's listed on the take-out menu, but missing from the sign behind the counter. They'll still make it for you, but be sure to grab a take-out menu as a slightly more up-to-date guide to Ankara's delights. Pumpkin is my current favorite frozen yogurt flavor. I've never had anything there that I didn't like. Oh. My boyfriend says to stay away from the butterscotch frozen yogurt, but otherwise you should be fine. *grin* I don't know what makes it such a special place. Almost everything's made fresh, and all the ingredients are really high-quality... I think that's definitely part of it. Everything just tastes good, even when it's something really simple, you know? Anyways, to get to it (and you really ought to check it out,) just take the green line to the Kenmore stop. It's right at 472 Commonwealth Ave. If you're going outbound, cross the street first, but I think if you're heading inbound you can just start walking away from the big Citgo sign until, not even a block down, really, you see on your righthand side the words "Ankara Cafe" written in pink neon and flickering like they're trying to give you a seizure. It's set down into the ground. On the righthand side of the street. Yeah..... God, I miss that place. Anyways, they're open 7 days a week (from something-AM-ish until midnight, I believe,) AND they deliver (though it takes a while.) Their number is (617) 437-0404. Go sometime. Thanks everyone!

  1. Welcome to Chowhound, silvernutmeg. Great post! And lately pumpkin seems to be the flavor du jour around here. Since you say you're "stuck" in Northampton, there are quite a few tips on the New England board. You can do a search through the homepage, upper right corner. Pat

This is definitely one of the best frozen yougurt spots around. They mix all the ingredients in as you watch. The hardest thing is trying to decide between all those flavors!

Don't they have a sister cafe on Comm. Ave. next to T Anthony's pizza? And another good place for that kind of frozen yogurt is the spa with great sandwiches in Brookline Village on Harvard St. by Aspinwall Ave.
