Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the New England

Northampton, MA

What recommendations can people give me for Northampton, MA? I'll be attending a conference there this Friday and Saturday with a professional colleague, and am looking for someplace nice (ethnic is fine) where we can have a discussion about work projects over food and wine.

  1. Leslie, you'll find many recommendations for Northampton restaurants on the "New England" board; you could also do a word search on "Northampton" from the Chowhound main page. Have fun in Noho; it's a great town.

      East Side Grill
great chicken and steaks-with a cajun flavor, and good wine.

We did end up eating at the Eastside Grill, where we shared a plate of a half-dozen raw oysters as an appetizer, my dinner companion had a lovely steak and I had excellent crispy catfish with a corn salsa. For dessert she had the lemon mousse, and I had the apple crisp. The cost was very reasonable and the service was good as well.

Try Side Street Cafe, Florence, MA (http://sidestcafe.com/). The dining room is quite pretty, with an outdoor area facing the street for pleasant evenings. The food is inventive, fresh, and well prepared. The wine list offers a number of well priced selections by the bottle and the glass. My sife and I stumbled in looking for a good meal. What we got was really memorable, well thought out, perfectly executed dishes that surprised and delighted us. Well worth a few extra minutes in the car.

      3. While it is somewhat uneven the best upscale food is at del raye. Ethnic eateries such as India House and Veracruzana are always dependable as is Cha Cha Cha.

        1. We love Paul & Elizabeth's. Menu is fish and vegetarian, good wine list, wholesome food, great desserts. Never feel rushed there.

I second Side Street. The food isn't amazing, but reliable and the atmosphere is very nice. We've been there a lot. I like Zen. India House is good, a little pricey for what it is. A little noisy, but outside at the Brewery is always fun!
