The Elusive Subgum Rice Sticks

I need a new source for "subgum rice sticks." These particular rice sticks are coin-sized oval shaped noodles. Wua Pei in the Chinatown Eatery served them but to my chagrin I recently found that that establishment is gone. :<(

These rice sticks are also translated as New Year's Cake.

Many years ago Robert Nadeau said that chow foon replaced gnocchi as the apotheosis of pasta. These rice sticks take pasta to yet another level.

Can anyone help?

  1. Sounds like you're describing one of the dishes I mentioned in the previous post:

the best I've had around here are at King Fung Garden, but I'm sure other people have differing opinions...

Thanks. When I saw your mention of rice cakes I wondered if that was yet another name for these things.

I will definitely go to King Fung Garden on my next visit to Beantown.
