Rauxa Closed???!

It appears that the completely wonderful Catalonian restuarant in Union Sq., Somerville, Rauxa, has closed its doors.

My poor palate!!

  1. I share your disappointment.

    The good news is that the chef has landed at Taranta in the North End. I have not been yet but am eager to do so. Although the food is closer to Italian than Spanish, there is talk that the menu will be nudged in the direction of Spain. A happy compromise, perhaps.

      I was sorry to see Rauxa go because I liked their lunch and their brunch, and their wine list. But I wasn't surprised to see them fail--their dinner prices were simply outrageous. Also, the service was never particularly friendly or good.

        Paul from the old DaddyO's will be opening a Columbian? Cuban? - defn. Latin influenced restaurant there soon. Maybe by now. [5.10]
        Afraid I can't remember the name but it should be good!


    2. I was devestated by this...Rauxa had become one of my favorite restaurants in all of the Boston area. Chef Jim Becker has moved to Taranta, on Hanover Street. Still...I will miss that Catalan cuisine...

        We always had wonderful meals at Rauxa. The seafood and garlic soup was fantastic as were the wonderful little olives that they served. I thought the prices were ok and the service was attentive and friendly.
        Too bad, we will miss it!

          Yep, it closed New Years Eve.

          I saw Jim Bakker Sunday (He manages Umbria in the South End) and mentioned that the memory of the garlic soup still brings tears to my eyes.

          Umbria, BTW is excellent.
