The Helmand - What to order?

I'm going to The Helmand. Any tips on what to order (or what not to order!)?

  1. I went with a friend recently for the first time and had the rack of lamb. It was fantastic; had a nice char on the outside and juicy on the inside.

      I have never had anything bad there. It is all sublime and in a lovelys setting. The menu is good at giving descriptions so you will only be pleasantly surprised at how good it all tastes. Enjoy!

      1. OK, this is a little late, I haven't been here in a while. I always order the same stuff at Helmond. My favorite entree is Kabuli, it's baked lamb served with pilau rice and topped with raisins and shredded carrots. I love fruit with meet, the balance of sweet and savory.

        You MUST order the pumpkin appetizer (kaddo). It's amazing. It's baked and served with a meat sauce and/or a yogurt sauce, depending if you prefer vegetarian. When the pumpkin is consumed, I use the awsome warm bread as a sponge to get every last drop off of the plate.

        There is a great eggplant appetizer (banjan), and the Aushak, ravioli stuffed with leeks, are also wonderful.

        There is a lot of lamb on the menu, I prefer the baked dishes with spices over the simple grilled stuff you can get anywhere. A friend enjoyed the chicken with curry, and another had the lamb with spinach. The menu IS descriptive so if it sounds like a combo you'd like, then order it. I dining companion did order something called lamb with vegetables and it was not very exotic, just lamb with vegetables in a tomato based sauce. Check out the specials as well.

        For dessert there is a creamy pudding with fresh fruit on top, can't remember the name, but it's a nice finish to the meal.
